So my beloved A's start their series against Boston tonight. It doesn't bode well that we're matching Tim Hudson against Pedro Martinez, who was almost unstoppable in September. Cross your fingers, click yor heels, or do whatever is necessary to bring my team some luck. Yes, a Cubs/BoSox Series would rock, and if my A's go down and Giants go down, that's how I'll be rooting. But for now...could my babies just take one postseason series, please? This is our fourth straight year in the playoffs, and we've nothing to show for it. I want to at least see Eric Chavez hit in the ALCS!
So my girlfriend Whoolie has been laid off again. Today's her last day at the job it took her nine months to find, a job that she absolutely adores, working for people she respects doing work she's damned good at. To help her get through this crappy week, some friends have loaned her their house, jacuzzi and outdoor fireplace. A group of us are headed over there Friday after work to feed and comfort her. I, of course, volunteered to cook. Keeping in mind that almost everybody there will be vegetarian or pesco-vegetarian, here's the menu:
Whoolie's Cheer-up Nosher
Bruschetta with crushed garbanzoes, sun-dried tomatoes and mint
Roasted eggplant bundles stuffed with feta and couscous
Grilled shrimp marinated in lemon and marjoram
Pasta salad with spinach, pine nuts and garlic
Camembert, apples and honeycomb
Bowle with blackberries
My knitting is again taking a back seat. Tonight I'll be cooking for the party, tomorrow night is a second date with the geologist, and Friday I'll be in the hot tub supporting Whoolie. Woe is me; life should always be this difficult.
One thing that's really stressing me out is work. This internship business is wrapping up, all of a sudden I've been asked to provide documentation for each of the new skills learned by Friday. Holy crap. That means basically writing a desk manual in a day and a half. My little fingers are going to be very busy.
