Being Kaetchen is sometimes more fun than being me. Like so many, I enjoy the moderate anonymity. Anybody who wanted to could find me, but why should they? Then there's the name itself. Kitten. The boyfriend who dubbed me Kaetchen actually said it in Pfaelzisch, (so it came out as Kaetzelsche) a German dialect we used to giggle secretly at the silly people who thought Chico's Tecate Grill is real Mexican food. The boyfriend is long gone (on to better things, clearly) but the name has stayed with me. It's one of the most endearing names I've had. So I use it to remind me that I'm fun, damnit, even as I enter data into diversity spreadsheest and help hire a new vice chancellor at my enormous university. The U. It has to remain anonymous - I don't want to end up like dooce, fired for speaking the truth and laughing at her life publicly. Suffice to say it's huge, it's famous, and it's in a Western state with a red-lined budget that makes me look like a money guru. K?
