Today is severe allergy hell. There's nothing worse than itchy eyes and itchy nose. I've been rattling on about the stupid tank for weeks now without an actual picture, so here's "side 1", as I now think of it: Thrilling, don't you think? I can't imagine now why I picked this pattern. Ah well. I'm 6" into side 2; there will be some simple straps and the beading to complete. However, I checked the calendar yesterday and realized that I only have until July 6 to finish Miss Beek's birthday present, so last night I swatched for the Rachel top out of Knitty. I happened to have two skeins of Velvet Touch in a royal blue color; it's just enough yarn. I had, however, forgotten what a pain in the ass it is to swatch in these extra-soft yarns. Hopefully she'll like the top - she has one sort of similar that is now too big. Other stuff: Miss Beek went with me on Sunday to the farmer's market for the first time. After running into a co-worker of J's (pre-coffee, no less), I needed a pickmeup. So afterwards we headed over to the Korean market for kimchi. Mmm, kimchi. The pictures below show what my shopping yielded. You're looking at beets, rainbow chard, a filet of steelhead, calabacitas, garlic cheese curd, red oakleaf lettuce, and lots of other good stuff. There's also a bunch of purslane - bonus points for whoever can find it. (Purslane's incredibly delicious; ask at your local Mexican market for verdolagas.) But here are the true finds: the last morels of our season and three kinds of kimchi (pressed tofu, whole cucumber, and best of all, daikon chunks!) Yummy yummy yummy. Last night's dinner was just kimchi and some of the cold grilled steelhead. Happy, happy days. The morels I'm drying for future use; they'll end up thrown into a risotto some time when it's cooler.
